Companies We Love and the People Behind Them: Quinn Popcorn and Kristy & Coulter Lewis
An estimated 1 billion pounds of popcorn is consumed each year in America, with many consumers unaware of what comes along in their favorite bag of microwave popcorn. What you’ll find is partially hydrogenated oil, diacetyl (the ingredient found in the fake butter flavoring) as well as microwave bags coated with PFCs, which “are chemicals that have been shown to suppress immune function in children and cause cancer in animals” (http://www.joybauer.com/what-the-heck-are-you-eating/whats-in-microwave-popcorn.aspx).Yea, it’s pretty scary what you’ll find in most bags of microwave popcorn. Maybe it was enough to scare you away from microwave popcorn forever.
We’re here to tell you, it’s finally safe (and totally worth it) to come back and enjoy your favorite, convenient snack once again. We recently discovered Quinn Popcorn and are incredibly grateful to this small team of devoted popcorn lovers who have reinvented one of America’s favorite snack for the better.
Quinn Popcorn was born when the founders, Kristy and Coulter, brought home their first child (named Quinn) and became devoted to cleaning up their favorite snack. They started with the bag. They got rid of the chemical coatings (PFOA, PFCs, Poly, etc.). They got rid of the susceptor (gray metal/plastic patch you find in most bags). And to top it off, they created a bag that’s made only from paper and it’s compostable.
Then, they moved on to the ingredients. Quinn Popcorn uses non-GMO ingredients, organic popcorn and omega-3 rich expeller pressed oils. First, is the microwave popcorn bag, followed by the non-GMO seasoning packet and a packet of expeller pressed oil. All of these come together in a beautifully designed, earth friendly packaging. Inside the box you’ll find 3 different pouches that allow you to create a popcorn masterpiece with flavor that seems to coat every last kernel crevice.
The final product? Delicious, crunchy, nutty, popcorn that comes in a variety of savory and sweet flavors. Vermont Maple & Sea Salt? Hickory Smoked Cheddar? Yes, please. We just made a batch of the Parmesan & Rosemary microwave popcorn and have to say, Quinn Popcorn – you just made us fall back in love with microwave popcorn.
Cheers!
